Hair loss is not one diagnosis
Diffuse shedding, patterned thinning, patchy loss and hair breakage can have different causes. A useful medical assessment starts with the pattern and timeline rather than ordering a broad panel without a clinical question.

When dermatology is important
Scalp inflammation, scarring, patchy loss, possible autoimmune disease or an uncertain hair disorder may require a dermatologist. Coordinated referral is better than claiming that every type of hair loss is hormonal.
No test or treatment guarantees hair regrowth. Response depends on the diagnosis, duration and whether follicles remain capable of recovery.
